Africa is the fastest growing cellular phone market in the world. In the beginning of 2000 Africa had about eight million subscribers. Now there are more than 100 million cellular phones on the continent. The ratio is about one out of nine Africans have a cell phone. There are phone towers above some cities such as Cairo, Cape Town, Mogadishu, and Monrovia. Even in rural villages where they never even had land line phones, or remote refugee camps are starting to have towers, places like Kakuma, and the northern part of Kenya. Africa is even growing twice as fast as Asia.
